We Can Stop the Money Chase
With the specter of political stalemate on top priority issues like health care intruding on Washington these days, here's a welcome antidote: the Fair Elections Now Act.
Pressed by our friends at the Public Campaign Action Fund and a growing coalition of national organizations, the Act would change the way congressional campaigns are financed
and allow candidates to spend more time focusing on the people they represent and addressing our nation's challenges, rather than on raising money. Once in office, Fair Elections candidates are free to legislate without regard to who helped pay for their campaign. They work for their constituents, not big money campaign contributors. Almost sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? Click here to learn more about the bill.
The bi-partisan bill sponsored by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Reps. John Larson (D-Conn.) and Walter Jones (R-N.C.) in the House will curb the campaign money chase and allow lawmakers to do the job we elected them to do-working to solve our nation's many problems. Write your congressperson and ask that s/he cosponsor HR 1826.
Let's meet our goal of signing on 100 cosponsors in the House. Tell your congressperson that this is a sensible bill that strengthens the influence of Main Street, not Wall Street and deserves full support. Pennsylvanians in the House already on board include Rep. Todd Platts (R-19th CD) and Rep. Michael Doyle (D-14th CD). Shouldn't your congressperson be a cosponsor?
Please take a moment to write your congressperson today. It's time well-spent.
